Don't cover your eyes, it just makes things look worse." I whispered, trying to help and comfort her all at the same time. Every time I moved closer toward her, attempting to force myself to hold onto her, she moved away. With her hands still shielding her eyes from me, she mumbled,
"Don't touch me."
"I'm just trying to help." I timidly replied, looking at her.
"Nothing you can or will do is ever going to help." Katerina finally said after a long pause then let out a soft sob.
As if I had acted upon reflex or impulse, I wrapped my arms around her, letting her feel the warmth of my body heat against the wet, coldness of hers. She didn't try to get out nor did she even shift her weight while in my arms. We both stood there, in the moment, feeling the beating of one another's heart upon the other's chest.
I wasn't quite sure if this was a good time to kick in a joke or not, but I decided to just go for it.
"See, I told you we had chemistry. Can you feel it?" I grinned as I pried her fingers away from her face. She looked up at me, and low and behold, she was laughing.
"Yeah, I feel it." she said, smiling as she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly like a little girl would to her precious teddy bear. It felt good. Something told me that this was a good sign, especially coming from her.
"Do you just wanna ditch this place and go over to my place for a hot cup of cocoa? My mom makes the best that I've ever tasted, and trust me, that I pretty damn good coming from the 'Picky-eater-extraordinaire'."
"But don't you live with Tylan? I mean, how would that actually work out?" Katerina asked, an expression of perplexity showing on her face. She wanted to come with me, but didn't want to see my brother.
"Okay, so that idea gets thrown out the window."
"You can come over to my place?" She suggested.
"No. That would be so wrong." I told her a bit too quickly making her raise her eyebrows and remove her arms from my waist and put them onto hers.
"I mean, nothing is wrong with that, but don't you think that would be a tad bit weird since I'm the guy and usually guys invite the girl over? Not the other way around"
"So you're telling me you run your life by stereotypes? How interesting." Katerina shot back at me.
"No! Fine, lets just go over to your place then." I mumbled in defeat.
We walked hand in hand, towards where my car had been parked and I had to wonder what all of this meant, where did we connect?
I waited until we were both securely strapped inside the car and drove off until I even attempted to bring up the subject of- us.
"So, we're like officially an 'it'?" I asked, keeping my eyes on the road. You know, just in case she overreacts like she's known for doing.
"No." She said as she turned around to face me. I had to force myself to keep my eyes on the road when she was giving me that look, I could just feel it.
"Ouch." I sarcastically answered, putting one hand upon my chest while keeping one hand still on the steering wheel.
"We are not an 'it' or whatever the hell you just said." Katerina mentioned to me clarifying everything. Why does she find the need to be so difficult?
"Fine, we're together."
"No."
This time I took my eyes away from the road ahead and looked at her. Why was she playing games with me; I hate this. I hate not being in control and with her, I almost never am. She unreadable; she's like an unbreakable code one in which there is no way to unlock what lies deep within her. Maybe I'm the key. Maybe, just maybe.
"You're just being difficult. Go ahead, I've got three more hours." I replied, frustrated, but still able to pull off a grin.
"I am not! You haven't officially asked me anything so at the moment there is nothing." Katerina logically stated.
"So I have to SPELL this out for you?" I asked her, aggravated. She didn't answer so I automatically presumed that was what she wanted me to do.
"Will you be my--- girl?" I paused, waiting for her reply. She was taking a long time and I was just about ready to give up and throw her out of my car. Just kidding!
"You didn't spell it out." Katerina said, a smirk upon her face.
"Holy shit! You're fucking WORSE than me." I exclaimed, ready to pull the hair out of my head. This made Katerina burst out into a series of enormous laughter and giggles. After a few minutes of her ongoing, clinically insane moment of laughter, she looked at my face; I had on one of those pouts that make all the girls fall. Works every time; except for this time.
"Yes. And it's not because of that pout, I've seen far too many to actually let that work on me. I've built an immunity, if you will."
"Finally, I get an answer. A question that is supposed to take two seconds to say and two minutes to reply to has taken us the entire ride to your house. God damn it, I love you." I grumbled to Katerina as I pulled my keys out of the ignition and took a deep breath.
"Now that was super cute." Katerina said as she leaned forward for a kiss.
